CatSpring Marfa Dark Roast Yaupon Tea, Loose Leaf (2 oz) and Teabags (16 ct)

Green yaupon tea is forgiving — steep longer, re-steep your leaves, or adjust the quantity to your palate. Fresh water brings out the best flavor.
Hot Yaupon Tea
- 1 tbsp loose leaf or 1 tea bag
- 8–14 oz hot water (just below boiling, around 212°F)
- Steep 4–6 minutes
- Re-steep up to three times — the first steep releases the most caffeine
Iced Yaupon Tea
- 5 tbsp loose leaf, 10 tea bags, or an iced tea sack
- Steep in 1 liter hot water for 10 minutes
- Add 1 liter cold water and ice
- Stays bright and clean when chilled — no bitterness, no added sweetener needed
Cold Brewed Yaupon Tea
- 5 tbsp loose leaf, 10 tea bags, or an iced tea sack
- 2 quarts cold water
- Steep 8–12 hours in the fridge
- The result is ultra-smooth with a naturally sweet, mellow finish
Pro tip: For a stronger brew, use more tea leaves rather than steeping longer. Green yaupon is impossible to over-steep, so you can leave it in the water all day without worry.
When we say sustainable, we mean every step of our process is designed to benefit our land, our harvesters, our partners, and our customers.
Wild-Grown and Sustainably Harvested. Our green yaupon grows naturally across 1,100 acres in its native Texas environment — no monoculture farming, no irrigation, no replanting required. Unlike South American cousins like yerba mate that require extensive cultivation, yaupon thrives on rainwater and sunshine alone.
Low-Impact Processing. No water is added during harvest or processing, and our facilities are powered by solar energy. Our packaging is fully recyclable or compostable.
People-First Harvesting. Our harvesting program includes a second-chance employment initiative, creating meaningful, dignified work for individuals who face barriers to employment. Some of our harvesters have been with us for over a decade.
Regenerative by Nature. CatSpring's Grassland Restoration Initiative restores balance between native grasses and yaupon holly as we harvest — leaving the land healthier than we found it.

Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about products at CatSpring Yaupon.
Marfa Dark Roast has a rich, toasty flavor with warm notes of roasted nuts and subtle sweetness. The finish is full-bodied and smooth with no bitterness, thanks to yaupon's naturally tannin-free profile. If you enjoy dark roast coffee or black tea, this cup will feel familiar but cleaner.
Loose leaf (2 oz) gives you more control over brew strength and works well for ritual brewing. Teabags (16 individually wrapped) are better for convenience, travel, and consistent cups at work. Both use the same dark roast yaupon, so the flavor is the same.
Marfa Dark Roast is bold, toasty, and closest to coffee or black tea in flavor. Pedernales Green is light, crisp, and grassy, more like Japanese green tea. Choose Marfa if you want full-bodied depth. Choose Green if you prefer a bright, refreshing cup.
Marfa is the boldest roast with rich, roasted nut flavor and the most full-bodied cup. Lost Maples Medium sits in between, with a balanced, nutty profile closer to oolong. Choose Marfa for a coffee-like experience. Choose Medium for an everyday, all-purpose yaupon.
Yes. Add 5 tablespoons of loose leaf or 10 teabags to 2 quarts of cold water and steep 8 to 12 hours in the fridge. Cold brewing brings out a smoother, slightly sweeter side of the dark roast while keeping the toasty depth. Yaupon is forgiving, so steeping longer won't make it bitter.
Yes, it is naturally caffeinated. Yaupon contains caffeine along with theobromine and theacrine, which together provide smooth, steady energy without jitters or crashes. The effect feels calmer and more sustained than coffee. It is not recommended for those sensitive to caffeine.
Yaupon is naturally free of tannins, which makes it gentler on the stomach than most teas and coffee. Marfa Dark Roast stays smooth and non-bitter even when steeped longer than recommended. If tannins in black tea or green tea bother you, yaupon is worth trying.
